Frequently Asked Questions

Can Medicare supplement deny coverage?
Short answer no. Longer answer only if Medicare does not cover that condition.
Can Medicare supplement plans be changed at any time?
So this is not a question of when or how you can change a Medicare Supplement the reality is you can change as long as your health permits. Unlike Medicare Advantage Plans there are no enrollment windows.
Can Medicare supplement insurance be denied?
Yes! but not during your Initial Enrollment Window. That is to say either when turning 65 (3months before the month of and three months after) or if you are leaving a group major Medical policy after turning age 65. Other conditions could create an open enrollment window but this is the main window.
Can Medicare supplement premiums be paid from an HSA?
Unfortunately, you cannot pay Medicare Supplements premiums using HSA funds. Medicare Supplement premiums, or Medigap premiums, are one of the only Medicare plan types that you cannot pay for using HSA funds (Publication 969, 2020). In sum, Medicare Supplement premiums are not considered a qualified medical expense.
Can Medicare supplement plans be changed?
Yes, and it doesn't hurt to shop for lower premiums all plans ARE created equal they are standardized by the Federal Government.
IE.. A plan F, G are the same with all carriers the difference is price and company experience.

Can Medicare deny coverage

The short answer to this is yes, Medicare Advantage plans can deny coverage. The more important thing to understand, however, is when coverage can be denied. All insurance programs can deny some coverage, and this includes Original Medicare, which will only pay for medically necessary coverage.
What does Medicare supplement not cover?
Medigap policies help cover the costs associated with Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. Medicare supplement plans do not cover prescription medication obtained through a retail pharmacy or mail order service. A separate, stand-alone plan should be added if prescription drug coverage is needed.
Why Medicare Supplement VS Medicare Advantage?
Lower out-of-pocket medical costs. Medicare Supplement premiums are higher than Medicare Advantage, but out-of-pocket costs when you get care are typically much lower. A Medicare Supplement plan pays your Part A deductible and some or all of your Part B copays or coinsurance, as well as other expenses.
Why Medicare Supplement?

Medicare Supplement insurance can help reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses. Medicare Supplement insurance policies (also known as Medigap) are offered by private insurance companies and are regulated by the State Departments of Insurance. These policies provide insurance coverage that supplements the coverage provided by Medicare Parts A and B.

Is Medicare free at 65?
You are eligible for premium-free Part A if you are age 65 or older and you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years. You can get Part A at age 65 without having to pay premiums if: You are receiving retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board.
