Medicare Supplement Plans in Florida

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans help cover the out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare doesn't pay — like copays, coinsurance, and deductibles. As an independent broker, I compare all available plans at no cost to you.

What Is Medicare Supplement (Medigap)?

Medicare Supplement insurance, also called Medigap, is sold by private insurance companies to fill the 'gaps' in Original Medicare (Parts A and B). These plans help pay for costs like hospital stays, doctor visits, and skilled nursing facility care that Medicare doesn't fully cover. Unlike Medicare Advantage, Medigap works alongside Original Medicare — you keep your Medicare card and can see any doctor or specialist in the country who accepts Medicare.

With a Medicare Supplement plan, you'll have predictable costs and no network restrictions — see any Medicare-accepting doctor nationwide.

When to Enroll in a Medicare Supplement Plan

Timing matters with Medigap. The best time to enroll is during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period — after that, insurers can use medical underwriting to charge you more or deny coverage.

1

Medigap Open Enrollment Period

6 months starting the month you turn 65 and enroll in Part B

Your guaranteed-issue window. Insurers cannot deny you coverage or charge more based on health conditions. This is the best time to enroll.

2

Guaranteed Issue Rights

Specific qualifying events

Certain situations give you guaranteed-issue rights outside open enrollment — such as losing employer coverage, your plan leaving Medicare, or moving out of a plan's service area.

3

Outside Open Enrollment

Any time

You can apply for Medigap at any time, but insurers in most states can use medical underwriting — meaning they can charge higher premiums or deny coverage based on health history.

Same plan, different prices

Plan G is identical no matter which company sells it — but premiums can vary by hundreds of dollars per year. I compare every carrier available in your area.

Florida-specific expertise

Florida has unique market dynamics. I know which carriers are competitive in your county and which to avoid.
